Saving versus using
What is the difference between saving a keyword and using it for linkbuilding?
Saving is keeping. It is free, generously limited, and reaches nothing. Using one for linkbuilding puts it in the small set Serpfeed searches Google with on every discovery run, and that set is what your plan limits.
How many keywords can I save?
Hundreds on Free and thousands on paid plans, so in practice the saved set is not the thing to ration. The number that matters is the discovery set, on the pricing page as Discovery keywords.
Is a keyword here the same as a keyword in Monitoring?
No, and they are counted separately. A keyword here is a topic you want to be known for. A monitoring keyword is a name you want to hear about when somebody says it in public. Both are labelled Keywords in the app, and the section they sit under is what tells them apart.
Researching
What does a keyword search cost?
5 credits per topic. A topic that has already been researched, by you or by anyone, is free, and re-opening a search you have run before is always free however old it is.
The search returned nothing.
That means Google has no search data for the phrase, usually because it is too specific or too unusual. Drop the year, drop your brand name, or drop one adjective and try the broader version.
Can I refresh the numbers?
Yes, for 5 credits, and it asks you to confirm first. Worth knowing before you press it: search volumes are updated about once a month, so refreshing something fetched last week usually returns exactly what you already have.
The numbers
Why is a cell blank?
Blank means Serpfeed has nothing to tell you, which is different from a measured zero. Most blanks fill in on the next overnight pass. One kind is permanent: some phrases are searched so rarely that Google publishes no figure at all.
Why do my two position columns disagree?
They measure different things. Avg position is a Search Console average across a window, mixed across devices and countries. SERP rank is a single snapshot from when Serpfeed last checked. Both can be right at once.
Do I need to press anything to keep the numbers current?
No. Serpfeed refreshes volumes, difficulty, intent, rankings and competitor gaps on its own, about monthly per project. The only manual control is the Search Console menu, because that data is yours from Google and only makes sense over a window you choose.
Working with your set
What does the Opportunities column mean?
How many link opportunities Serpfeed found using that keyword. Click the number to see them. It is the answer to whether a keyword is earning its place, and a dash means no search has run with it yet rather than that it is a bad keyword.
I dismissed a keyword by mistake.
Dismissed keywords are a group in the sidebar, not a deletion. Restore brings one back to your saved set, and the message that appears when you dismiss has an Undo on it.
How do I group keywords?
Tags, applied in the table: click the Tags cell on a row, or tick several rows and use Tag in the bar that appears. Then filter by a tag and press Save view to keep it in the sidebar.
